3 portfolio scenes / 3 more classes / 3 more months

By the title, you can probably tell I'm practically counting down the days until graduation at this point. I am incredibly excited to show everyone the block outs for my 3 environments for my portfolio!

Keep in mind these are bare-bones scenes. The textures are not final and the models will still need some finishing touches. I have matched up the reference image to my current scenes so you can see where I'm headed with them!

Four More Months!!!!!

The last two months have been busy as usual. In my Compositing and Scene Finishing class we touched on the use of Syntheyes.

Tracking done in SynthEyes. Object placement, constraints, and  playblast done in Maya.
Scene composited within Nuke X.

During my Project Management III class we mostly worked on file management and refreshers on Maya tools but I did arrange a scene from a few of my previous models.

My class this last month was Directed Study. The precursor to my portfolio courses! Here are the things I made!

Modeled in Maya.

Pot modeled in Maya. Top paper modeled in ZBrush.

Mila materials rendered in Maya.

The End of Summer is Nigh

And with it comes another college update from yours truly! As always, I've been busy beyond comprehension. Homework, work, sleep (though not much, if I'm being honest)....Anywho, you probably have been wondering if I dropped out yet, right? Nope! Despite all odds, I have endured this far, I'd be an idiot to give up now.

Starting in October, I will be doing portfolio stuff solely until graduation in March! This final portfolio classes are my light at the end of a long tunnel.

Here is some stuff now:

Pulley UV map
Scraper UV map

Image Based Lighting (IBL)

Key Light (area light)

Warm Light (area light: set to temp)

Final (all lights and textures combined)

Nine more months to go!

So I officially, as of today, have four more months (six more classes) until my final five portfolio classes! Pending I do not fail anything, I will graduate at the beginning of March 2017. YAY!

The last two months have been super duper uber busy soooooo...now I'm finally updating.

First, April was my Computer Animation I class. Here are the few things I did...

First pass (week 1) for this 'Leggy' walk.

Final pass (week 2) for 'Leggy' walk.

First pass (week 3) on the 'Antsy' walk.

Final pass (week 4) on 'Antsy' walk.

As for the month of May here, I had my Computer Animation II class which culminated into one final project in all four weeks.

For all of these videos, I only animated. I did not create the models or rig them.

This month (June) I will have two classes. Animation Production and Project Management & Assessment II. Oi!

Another Month Down, Eleven More to Go!

So I was extra busy this month trying to get a new job (I am now a proud Intern at Externa CGI), finish a contest entry, doing homework and such. Anywho, turns out I couldn't finish the entry in time but I will be finishing it as a personal project. I'll post progress here when I can.

For now, this is as far as I am:

Leafeon, from Pokemon, sculpted in ZBrush.

Here's my final play blast (not an actual full render) for my rigging class. I rigged the character using mocap, made his loin cloth into Ncloth, made the belly jiggle, and added the hair and fur.

The next two months are Character Animation I and II. *Schedule below.

Off to bed! Phew!

Technical Stuff

I realize it's been quite a while but I've definitely had a lot going on. It's officially exactly one year (as of the 3rd) until I graduate! I began volunteering at The Geek Group last month and I have a tremendous amount of side projects along with homework this weekend alone. But if you're keeping track, you deserve an update. I'm here for a short time tonight, while I sort out some program issues I'm having, to give you this news!

This first video is brought to you by my tired hands during my last bit of 2D animation.

The next class I had was called Compositing Fundementals. I really enjoyed it and I really hope to learn more in this area. Here are a few of the projects I did:

The last class I had was Character Rigging 1 (my current class being Character Rigging 2). Here is a screenshot and a video of me goofing around. There just aren't a whole lot of visual aspects to show with rigging.

The link is to the video and my Facebook group. Feel free to follow the group for more frequent updates!

Well, that's about all for now folks. I leave you with this Pokemon, the start of a contest entry, Leafeon!
